The countdown is on!

12 days till blast off!!  My oh my how the time has flown. We are in full preparation mode, bumming items off the parents and purchasing things, from packs of baby wipes to costco-sized bags of quinoa to bottles of Imodium. One of the most well purchased items for the trip so far has to be the awning from The Bus Depot, a sweet hippie website featuring VW van parts. A practice run proved it to be super light weight and easy to set up!! Im pretty excited because it feels like we added another room to the van. Life in a van can be quite luxurious, haha!! But I am starting to feel that we will never be completely prepared, no matter what we have stowed away or practice setting up. And you know what? That's half of the fun!

The So-Long-Portland party for tomorrow is going to be awesome! Rogue brewery had their monthly garage sale and we scored two, yes two kegs. Get ready to drink some delicious brew!! The beer is so good that we had to hire a pit bull to guard it from party crashers. Ha!

Look forward to seeing you tomorrow!

16 days 'til homeless!

Well, the apartment is trashed, nerves are a bit frayed and the dogs are totally spooked. Something is happening. We don't know what, but one of us should pee in the closet anyway (that's apparently what the dogs were thinking). We've got most of our possessions in a 10x13 storage unit under the Morrison Bridge. Its haunted. And, we are on the sixth floor which is good because most of the theft occurs on the 4th and 5th according to Ellen. Ellen and her attendant (an unnamed tattooed man with goat horn implants under the skin on his bald head) have been very helpful getting us situated in our little unit. The building is from the 1870's and got a lot of erm..character.
We began putting the van in order and staged a tire change to make sure the spare fit and we had the right tools, etc. Looks like the scooter(more on this soon..) will fit well on the cargo carrier along with gear, water, etc.

I'm off to happy hour today with Elias Anderson aka Pirate, whom we hired @ Courtesy before parting ways shortly after. He sailed himself and family from BC to La Paz and has hinted at flying down to Baja to take Linds and I sailing for a few days in October. Check out his journey on sailblogs.com. I aim to buy him drinks til he commits tonight....
